If I was independently wealthy, I would quit my day job and be a full-time sports photographer. I would travel around the country (or the world if I’m wealthy) shooting sporting events. A fast, long lens, the right position, and patience for getting the perfect action shot is necessary when recording sporting events. From individual events, like racing or kayaking, to group sports like football or basketball, the challenge is telling a compelling story the viewer can relate to in some way. I found photographing rodeos a good balance of individual and group sports. And when photographing them, they are challenging and exhilarating at the same time, especially when I manage to finally capture the pain or intensity a cowboy has on his face.
